Apple Turnovers

I have been wanting to try my hand at making apple turnovers for a very long time. My first memory of an apple turnover was when I was 11 or 12 years old. I attended a summer music camp at Northern Arizona University in Flagstaff Arizona. There was a bakery near the campus. I thought I had found the best thing in the world.

I have put it off because I was concerned about the care needed to make a good puff pastry. Yesterday, I tried a recipe in "Breakfasts and Brunches" by the Culinary Institute of America. They call it Blitz puff pastry - lots and lots and lots of butter.

I made them and baked them up today. They came out great. I will have to try to make some of the other deserts that are in the book that use the pastry.
